In Memorium

These are the animals who have passed onto the rainbow bridge while in our care. We will miss every single one of them forever and always. Here are their stories <3

Davey.

This sweet old man was transferred to us with eight other cats from the Victoria County SPCA, as they were at capacity. For most of his life, Davey was in a house with an animal hoarding situation, which had to be intervened for the cat’s sake. Thankfully, they all made it out and were given a second chance at life, including Davey <3

When Davey first arrived at the shelter, we thought he was around thirteen years old. After he passed away on September 18th, 2023, it was learned that he was around eighteen. He lived a very long life, which started badly, but he was safe, warm, and loved during his final months. We couldn’t be happier to be the people who cared for him at the end of his life.

We miss and love you forever and always, little Davey <3

Gerald.

Unfortunately, one of our incredible staff members entered a room on February 15th, 2024, to find one of our beloved residents in an endless slumber.

Gerald made an instant impression on anyone he met. He could always be found sunbathing in his favourite window, patiently waiting for love and showing off his irresistible chubby cheeks and big belly that he adored being rubbed. He was truly a sweet soul <3

Gerald spent most of his life on the streets and was not in excellent condition when he arrived. Despite this, it only took us a few days to get his personality to shine, and we will forever be grateful for the trust and love he gave us during his short stay here.

We love and miss you so much, Gerald. Rest easy sweet boy <3

‘Old Man’ Cassius.

Cassius surprised us all. No matter what ailment was discovered or how weak he became, he was determined to live, and we were going to do everything we could to support him as long as he had that will.

Unfortunately, on February 15th, 2024 we had to say our goodbyes. We will forever remember him as one of the most resilient, sweetest, squeeze-tube-loving boys we will ever have the honour of caring for <3

We would like to thank Cassius’ incredible foster family for giving him what had to have been the best memories of his life, we will forever be grateful for all you did for him. Rest easy Cassius. We will love you forever and always <3

Tuba.

In late February the shelter experienced a small outbreak of a highly infectious and often deadly disease. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts we sadly lost one out of our two infected kittens, Tuba on February 28th, 2024 <3

Tuba was a 7-month-old baby boy who arrived after being rescued from a hoarding situation by the NBSPCA. He was shy his first few days but quickly turned into one of the sweetest most cuddly boys we have ever had the pleasure of caring for. He could often be found curled up in bed patiently waiting for love and food.

We will all miss his beautiful big eyes, chubby cheeks, and warm inviting attitude. We love you, Tuba, if only you had more time to experience all the love this world has to offer <3

Tapioca.

On April 21st, 2024, Puddin gave birth to two beautiful kittens, Cup and Tapioca. From the get-go, we realized Tapioca was not as big as his sibling or developing at the same rate. For the two days we were able to care for him, we bottle-fed him every couple of hours to make sure he was eating enough.

Despite our best efforts, Tapioca did not make it through his second night and passed during the morning of April 24th, 2024.

While we didn’t have long with you, Tapioca, you left an imprint on our hearts. We’ll take care of your mom and sibling for you. Rest in peace, Tapioca <3

Smeagol (Smeag).

It’s with a very heavy heart we share the passing of our baby Smeagol on May 29, 2024.

Smeagol was brought in early last week with his 12 siblings…. After finding a majority of them amazing foster families, we were able to focus our efforts on the three youngest and weakest out of the litter. (Smeagol being one of them) He and his brother were fortunate enough to spend the majority of their time with one of our incredible team members who cared for them around the clock. Her efforts did not go unnoticed when they began to gain weight and improve immensely.

Unfortunately, things took a turn quickly, and within a day, Sméagol showed no interest in food and began to lose the weight we worked so hard to put on. After being syringe fed and spending another night with our team member, Smeagol began fading rapidly, so we rushed into the vet clinic.

Unfortunately, despite everyone’s best efforts, we had to say our goodbyes.

Sméagol was best known for his love of baths and the mohawk that followed, as well as his love for our team member - he could always be found screaming in her ear, sleeping on her shoulder or making biscuits on her lap.

We would like to thank the Florenceville Vet Clinic Woodstock branch for their incredible efforts and support. As well as the team member and her family who worked tirelessly to ensure Sméagol always had a full tummy and knew exactly what love was.

If love alone could have saved him, he would have lived all nine lives.

We will miss and love you forever baby Smeag <3

Crumpet (Crumb).

It is with a heavy heart we share that on Monday, July 29th we had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to our wobbly baby Crumpet.

Despite everyone’s best efforts, multiple vet visits and endless medication combinations her condition only worsened and she began deteriorating before our very eyes. To keep her from suffering anymore and her future quality of life in mind we chose compassion and helped her pass pain free and surrounded with love.

This goofy girl full of attitude felt so much love since being rescued from the streets, never letting her past or deteriorating health hinder the love she showed. We are honoured to have been able to care for such a special girl

We will always love and miss you, Crumb. Rest peacefully <3

Henry.

It is with a very heavy heart we share the passing of our beloved boy Henry.

If you have ever visited us or are frequently on our page you probably have met and fallen in love with Henry. He had the biggest personality (& paws) and could often be found lounging in the office or stealing treats either straight from the container or from his wife Purrcilla.

We have all been lucky enough to love Henry for the last year and could not be more grateful for the time and kisses that he shared with us. We will cherish our memories forever sweet boy and we promise to give Purr your helping of treats <3

We will love you always and forever, rest easy sweet soul <3

February 6th 2007 - July 31st 2024

Purr.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Purr on August 10, 2024.

Purr was the best scruffy nearly 18-year-old lady to ever enter the shelter, and it has been a world of difference without her here with us. From her bellowing meow that sounded human to the goofy personality that meshed amazingly with her also deceased husband Henry, Purr was a hoot and a massive loss. We are grateful that she is now with her beloved Henry once again <3

Most of Purr’s life before the shelter is unknown, but from what was shared with us, it wasn’t a life someone would want to live. For a good amount of Purr’s life, she and two other cats were kept in travel carriers and were never let out. Her owner was homeless and trying her best, but ultimately it wasn’t fair for them to live in filth and neglect. For the year and a half Purr was at the shelter, she always knew love and that a bowl of wet food was coming when the door opened next.

We love and miss you so much, Purr. Rest easy, sweet old lady <3

Goldie.

Yesterday, August 29th, we had to make the extremely difficult decision to say goodbye to our golden girl, Goldie <3

This sweet old lady was rescued in Perth as her past owners abandoned her in their house after moving. We were distraught finding out that Goldie, who was 14 years old, was left to fend for herself with what we later learned was hyperthyroidism, a flea infestation, multiple abscessed teeth, an upper respiratory infection, severe weight and muscle loss, and a cancerous mass in her mouth making her unable to eat or drink.

Despite the immense amount of pain she was in, Goldie never showed it. She was always full of love, purring the days away with her humidifier running so she could breathe easier. We only knew Goldie for two weeks, but we’re glad we had that short amount of time with her so she could finally know love and warmth during her last days.

We love and miss you so much, Goldie. Rest easy now, sweet old lady <3
